Suddaby provides a deliciously evil and soulful voiceover, belting out songs such as “Feed Me (Git It)” and “Suppertime”. Kudos must be given to the duo of Madeleine Suddaby and Braydon Dowler-Coltman for bringing Audrey II to life. We see multiple versions of her throughout, starting with a seemingly benign baby one, and eventually a giant, ravenous monster. Audrey II is hyper-feminized and threatening with huge pink lips, rose petals adorning her “face”, and vicious teeth. Puppet-builder Amy Harris, in collaboration with set designer Beyata Hackborn, has conjured a larger-than-life, frighteningly human-like monster-or shall we say villainess. Together, Yusuf and Williams are an adorable couple to root for as they find themselves combatting diabolical villains of both the human and botanical species.īut let’s talk about the diva here that unapologetically steals the spotlight-Audrey II. Her rendition of “Somewhere That’s Green” is heartfelt and wistful, offering echoes of Ariel’s “Part of Your World” in The Little Mermaid. A wonderful match for Williams, Synthia Yusuf is equally charming as the sweet and naive Audrey. ![]() Tenaj Williams is endearing as the hapless Seymour, conflicted by his love for Audrey and ending the blood-thirsty rage of Audrey II, as expressed in his solo “Sudden Changes”. To complicate matters, Seymour achieves mini-celebrity stardom for being the plant daddy of the fiercely-growing Audrey II, and this coincides with a promising romantic relationship with Audrey. When Seymour inadvertently discovers the one thing the plant thrives on-human blood-the stage is set for carnage. There’s one problem: Audrey II won’t grow and frequently wilts. It instantly boosts business, and Seymour lets slip that he’s named the plant Audrey II-obviously in tribute to his crush. Mushnik, decides to shut down the struggling store, Seymour brings out a strange, Venus flytrap–like plant he’s been keeping in the back. Seymour is a poor orphan with a huge crush on Audrey, and Audrey is kind-hearted to a fault, reluctant to leave an abusive relationship. The story is set in an urban Skid Row in the 1960s, where we meet Seymour and Audrey, two young coworkers in a sleepy flower shop. ![]() That means there are strong songs in this show that exude familiar shades of Disney. Little Shop of Horrors is the work of book writer and lyricist Howard Ashman and music composer Alan Menken-the same team who wrote such Disney classics as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. The result is a delightfully entertaining production under the direction of Ashlie Corcoran that goes wildly over-the-top and leans into campiness at full-force. and Alberta talent in a coproduction with Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre. This comedic horror musical has been reimagined with an enjoyably evil and stylish diva of a plant, and a combined cast and creative team of B.C. ![]() YOU MAY ENJOY a little chuckle the next time you tend to your plants if you see the Arts Club Theatre Company’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. It took time for everyone to become accustomed to a new process and to take hiring more seriously, but a year later several peers mentioned that the engineering team was the best they'd ever worked with (it was also the fastest growing), and I could see a dramatic improvement in quality across the board for other teams.įinding and solving problems that are holistic, and seeing a dramatic improvement because the entire team recognizes the opportunity to become better versions of themselves, these are the rare but inspiring moments that build an energized workforce and ultimately a company that has a chance to be successful.Īnother thing I don't miss: backstabbing.Īt Large Tech Company I was managing two engineering teams, and one year I put three of my folks up for promotion. Our quality of hires dramatically improved across the board over the next six months. I spent a month developing some training and getting leadership onboard with doing in-person debrief meetings where we went around the table disucssing the real questions: Can the do the job we need them to do? Does this candidate already embody our Core Values? What will we have to mitigate if we hire them and how do we do that? The recruiters were incentivized to just put candidates in front of us as quickly as possible, and we didn't have good interview debrief processes the conversations were usually along the lines of "I like this person, we should hire them." ![]() We were not finding high quality candidates, and we were not hiring top quality employers. Turning things around, one thing about corporate America I do miss: Improving something broken in a really big way.Īt my last role, when I joined I realized our entire recruitment process was very broken. I'll be looking for my next adventure soon, but for now, I'm going to take some time to relax, finish up some personal projects, and see what happens next. The team almost runs itself, and while my recent focus was on longer term strategy and other projects in-flight, I have full confidence that everything with KSP2 is going to be just fine without me showing up in Fremont every day. There are processes and best practices that I enacted in my time at Intercept that have been fully adopted by the engineering team and other groups at the studio. One of the things I strive to do is work my way out of a job. I say this as someone who devoted three years to it, and as a player and a fan of the franchise. ![]() I trust this team, and while for obvious reasons I can't talk about the behind the scenes goings-on, I know KSP2 is going to be everything the players and fans want it to be. There are some decisions I wish I'd made better, but there are hundreds that I'm proud to have called correctly that got us where we are today. We solved some very difficult technical problems and made rocket science look easy, in the face of incredible challenges. I'm super proud of the engineering team that I built up at Intercept Games, and all the amazing and visionary leaders and game developers I was able to work with over the previous three years. I wish them the best, as both a fan and a shareholder. ![]() As Take2 publicly announced, they're doing some cost cutting, and, well, I'm not cheap. Today was my last day working on Kerbal Space Program 2. You'll need divert some of your limited resources to lowering your bedraggled team's stress levels, and perhaps even work on some damaging character traits that appear when things get really hectic. Once your mission is complete, returning to town brings its own strategies to consider. This works the other way too, so utilising moves that force your opponents back or pull them forward is a viable disruptive tactic. Certain attacks and moves will only make themselves available to each member when they're stood in a particular position. It's not just a matter of preference either. Knights, barbarians and other tanks favour the front lines, while healers and projectile specialists tend to bring up the rear. Each party member has a preferred position within the team. That latter example is a problem, because positioning is in important factor in each of DD's turn-based fights. ![]() One might freeze with fear, another might refuse medical assistance, while yet another might flee to the back of the party. Allow your team to become too highly strung and they will snap in a range of unpredictable ways. The tension of the situation steadily saps their spirits, as do frequent battles and random events. Sufficient human data are not available for assessing the late health effects of the transuranic elements, e.g., plutonium-239 and here it has been necessary to estimate risks from these internally deposited alpha-emitters in humans by simplified mathematical and dosimetric models 1 or from comparison of effects with other radionuclides, where both direct experimental observation in laboratory animals and knowledge of radiation effects in humans are available. 10 Human data on cancer induction by alpha-particle irradiation are sparse, but preliminary risk estimates have been calculated for some sites and tissues-lung, bone, head sinus and mastoid, and liver.Īll of these epidemiological surveys are presently in progress, none is completed, and the person-years of follow-up are still relatively small, so that the lifetime carcinogenic risks of alpha-radiation exposure remain uncertain. 8, 9įor estimation of risks associated with exposure to the alpha-emitting radionuclides, the most important human populations examined are the underground miners who are exposed to widely differing concentrations of radon-222 progeny, 3 the American radium-dial workers who ingested various amounts of long-lived radium-226 and radium-228, 6 the German patients who received injections of short-lived radium-224 11 with different activities, and the German patients who received injections of graded volumes of Thorotrast (colloidal thorium-232 dioxide). 3 That has led to recommendations, now being implemented, for national studies to assess the magnitude of the problem, for adopting remedial action levels of radon progeny in the indoor environment, and for introducing mitigation procedures to take effect at or below such levels to reduce population exposures from this source. Among the natural sources, inhaled radon and radon decay products indoors are the largest contributors to population exposure and might be responsible for a large number of lung-cancer deaths each year. The most important target tissues for cancer induction and degenerative changes are the respiratory tract, bone, liver, and the reticuloendothelium system.īoth natural and man-made alpha-emitting radionuclides in our environment can pose a risk to human health, but the natural sources currently make the largest contribution to human exposure. The health effects of radiation in humans include cancer induction, genetic disease, teratogenesis (induction of developmental abnormalities), and degenerative changes. Radiation effects depend not only on the physical properties of emitted radiation, but also on the physiology and biochemistry of the exposed person and the physical and chemical characteristics of the radionuclides, which control their deposition, transport, metabolism, excretion, and reuse in the body. ![]() ![]() The radionuclides of concern are mainly radon-222 and radium-226 and their alpha-emitting daughter products and the transuranic elements plutonium-238 and -239.Īlpha-emitting radionuclides can be absorbed into the tissues of the body and irradiate adjacent cells after inhalation or ingestion, after entry through a wound in the skin, or after injection for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Recent attention has focused on the alpha-emitting radioisotopes because of their presence in drinking water, in indoor air in buildings, and in mines and because of their potential release into the environment from the nuclear fuel cycle (including radioactive waste disposal) and from accidents during space exploration. Several alpha-emitting radionuclides occur naturally in our environment others are produced for industrial, military, and medical applications. ![]() ![]() The report also addresses health effects of exposure to other groups of radionuclides and their progeny that emit alpha particles-the isotopes of polonium, radium, thorium, uranium, and the transuranic elements. The largest part of the report deals with health effects of exposure to radon and its progeny, primarily because of a need to characterize the lung-cancer risk associated with exposure to radon and its short-lived daughters in indoor domestic environments. It emphasizes carcinogenic effects and, where possible, presents quantitative risk estimates for cancer induction. This report addresses demonstrated and potential health effects of exposure of human populations to internally deposited alpha-emitting radionuclides and their decay products. Tides create tidal currents, while wind and waves cause surface currents. These directed movements of seawater are caused by forces operating on the water, such as temperature variations, atmospheric circulation (wind), the Coriolis effect and salinity changes. Constant circulation of water in the ocean creates ocean currents. ![]() In all parts of the ocean, deep ocean temperatures range between −2 ☌ (28 ☏) and 5 ☌ (41 ☏). Near the poles where sea ice forms, the temperature in equilibrium is about −2 ☌ (28 ☏). In the tropics, surface temperatures can rise to over 30 ☌ (86 ☏). Ocean temperatures depend on the amount of solar radiation reaching the ocean surface. Human activity often has negative impacts on the ecosystems within the continental shelf. It is more shallow, with a depth of a few hundred meters or less. The continental shelf is where the ocean meets dry land. Light can only penetrate a few hundred more meters the rest of the deeper ocean is cold and dark (these zones are called mesopelagic and aphotic zones). Ocean photosynthesis also produces half of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere. As a result, the photic zone is the most biodiverse and the source of the food supply which sustains most of the ocean ecosystem. In this process plants and microscopic algae (free floating phytoplankton) use light, water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients to produce organic matter. This is the zone where photosynthesis can occur. The photic zone starts at the surface and is defined to be "the depth at which light intensity is only 1% of the surface value" : 36 (approximately 200 m in the open ocean). The water column is further divided into zones based on depth and the amount of light present. The pelagic zone is the open ocean's water column from the surface to the ocean floor. ![]() Oceanographers split the ocean into vertical and horizontal zones based on physical and biological conditions. ![]() The ocean influences climate and weather patterns, the carbon cycle, and the water cycle by acting as a huge heat reservoir. The ocean contains 97% of Earth's water and is the primary component of the Earth's hydrosphere, thus the ocean essential to life on Earth. Distinct names are used to identify five different areas of the ocean: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Antarctic/Southern, and Arctic. In English, the term ocean also refers to any of the large bodies of water into which the world ocean is conventionally divided. The world ocean ( sea) is the body of salt water that covers ~70.8% of the Earth. 1 Shore length is not a well-defined measure. ![]() If you could please answer these questions for me it will help to pinpoint the problem. While anyone can write stories, approving them into the team backlog and accepting them into the system baseline are the Product Owner’s responsibility. “Look at all the stories we accomplished in this iteration” (progress).“Wow, look at all these stories we are about to sign up for” (scope).Stories allow an improved understanding of the scope and progress: Sticky notes also offer other benefits: they help visualize work and can be readily placed on a wall or table, rearranged in sequence, and even passed off when necessary. The physical nature of the card creates a tangible relationship between the team, the story, and the user: it helps engage the entire team in story writing. Often, stories are first written on an index card or sticky note. Stories are small and must be completed in a single iteration (see the splitting stories section). It’s a vertical slice of functionality to ensure that every Iteration delivers new value. Some stories emerge from business and enabler features in the ART Backlog, while others come from the team’s local context.Įach story is a small, independent behavior that can be implemented incrementally and provides some value to the user or the Solution. The detailed implementation work is expressed through stories, which comprise the Team Backlog. Collectively, these artifacts are used to describe the solution’s intended behavior. SAFe describes a four-tier hierarchy of artifacts that outline functional system behavior: Epic, Capability, Feature, and Story. Enabler stories bring visibility to the work items needed to support exploration, architecture, infrastructure, and compliance. User stories deliver functionality directly to the end user. It also means that more items are displayed in the menu, making it just generally quicker to select the desired option. It would be cool if you could make some of the inputs Pop-Up Buttons rather than Combo Boxes, as then you can click anywhere on the element to open the menu, rather than just the arrow.Maybe you can add the menu to the pop-over (a gear icon to the right of the new snippet button maybe?) My system tray is pretty cluttered as it is, so I'd like it if there was an option to "Hide in Menu Bar".Likewise, it would be neat to rename collections via right-click, or actually to be able to rename a collection in general. It would be neat if I could get edit / delete options as a right-click menu on snippets. When I've got the overlay open, I should be able to press CMD+SHIFT+SPACE again to close it.What I reckon would make this better is the ability to add an empty collection via a button in the collection bar, and then be able to drag-and-drop snippets onto the collection icons to move them between them, while also still keeping your existing UI as an alternative option. I searched for a bit to find a "make collection" button, until finally realising that I had to edit a snippet and then type in a name that didn't already exist. Making collections and moving snippets into them is not intutive at all.I resized the window as a whole so I could see large lines in snippets without having scroll, but this means that the list is now a bit too big, and it would be nice to be able to resize it back down.
